Orangutan Haven is a world-first site for conservation and sustainability education, and a sanctuary for orangutans that can’t be released.
Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) has released over 300 orangutans back to the wild after being rescued from the illegal pet trade or from human-orangutan conflict.
Some can’t be returned to the wild due to injury or illness and will live on man-made islands at Orangutan Haven, living out their lives with dignity in a more natural environment.
Orangutan Haven is the world's newest eco park - a unique resource for conservation, education, sustainable development, and recreation, and will have a great impact on locals and the conservation of orangutans.
This 9-day field trip allows guests to participate in activities that will help develop the site, such as landscaping, construction, habitat furnishing, planting or other activities.
We will trek in the Gunung Leuser National Park to look for wild orangutans and learn the story of orangutan conservation in Sumatra, as well as experiencing local hospitality in the forest edge village of Bukit Lawang.
